Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  What is The Aroma Freedom Technique (AFT)?
A:  AFT is a step-by-step process developed by Dr. Benjamin Perkus that allows people to quickly identify and release negative thoughts, feelings and memories that may be holding them back from realizing their goals and dreams. It has been used by thousands of people safely and effectively since the book was published in 2016.

Q:  How long does a session take?
A:  A session of AFT takes about 30 minutes, depending on the how many layers of negative beliefs come up that need to be cleared. Some sessions can take as little as 10 minutes, but some might last up to an hour. It ends when the person has no more negative thoughts about their goal. People are most often energized afterwards, although occasionally there may be some temporary fatigue if there was a deep clearing of beliefs.

Q:  How much does a session cost?
A:  Session costs vary depending on your location and your practitioner. Each practitioner sets their own cost for a session based on their experience and whether the session is part of a package or coaching program.

Q:  Can AFT be done on Children?
A:  Yes! AFT works very quickly with children. They tend to shift more quickly because their nervous systems are not as burdened with years of negative programming, and because they are primed to learn things easily.

Q:  What is The Memory Resolution Technique (TMRT)?
A:  TMRT is the process used to gently dissolve the emotional charge connected with upsetting memories. It is described in chapters 4 and 5 of The Aroma Freedom Technique book.

Q:  What is The 60 Second Aroma Reset Technique (ART)?
A:  ART is a quick technique that can be used at any time to release the emotional charge connected with a current situation or stressor. It only takes a minute or two, and helps to calm your emotions and clarify how to move forward in a given situation.

Q:  Is AFT the same as psychotherapy?
A:  No! AFT does not use any diagnostic labels, and does not treat any conditions. It is most often used on its own, but it has also been effectively integrated into many kinds of professional services including psychotherapy, acupuncture, massage therapy, chiropractic, and more.

Q:  Do I need to be a professional to use AFT?
A:  No again! AFT was designed to be used by everyone, and has successfully been used by thousands of people from all walks of life.

Q:  Is it hard to learn?
A:  Most people can learn how to do AFT simply by following the step-by-step instructions in the book. If you can read and follow instructions, you can do AFT. Of course, the more you practice, the easier it gets and the faster your results come. We have trainings that allow you to learn online via video or webinar, in person through our books, or through the certification program.

Q:  What supplies are needed to do AFT?
A:  You will need the following Young Living Essential Oils to do AFT, whether on yourself or on someone else: Frankincense, Lavender, Stress Away Blend, Inner Child Blend, Release Blend, and Transformation Blend. Optional oils include Clarity Blend, Forgiveness Blend, Present Time Blend, and Valor Blend.

Q:  Can you do AFT on yourself?
A:  Absolutely. It was actually designed to be used on oneself. Whenever you are feeling stuck or blocked in some area of your life, you can take yourself through the process and experience nearly instant results. Of course, you may also benefit from having someone help you through the process, whether it be a friend, spouse, or a Certified AFT Practitioner.

Q:  What is a Certified AFT Practitioner?
A:  Certified AFT Practitioners have completed a training program taught by Dr. Perkus or his senior students, and have demonstrated competence in leading people through the step-by-step AFT process. Anyone may take the certification program as a way to better help others, or as a way to experience the personal growth that comes with regular use of The Aroma Freedom Technique.

Q:  Is Certification required in order to do AFT?
A:  No. Dr. Perkus hopes that everyone will do AFT regardless of whether they are certified. However, only certified practitioners are allowed to call themselves a "Certified AFT Practitioner" and only Certified Practitioners are allowed to charge for their services.

Q:  What is The Aroma Freedom Academy?
A:  This is an online school created by Dr. Perkus which offers a variety of classes using AFT in many areas of life. Dr. Perkus and his senior students teach pre-recorded as well as live classes every week to assist people in experiencing freedom in areas such as life balance, wellness, parenting, relationships, and more. This is also where the certification classes are held.

Q:  How can someone become an AFT Instructor?
A:  Once you have become a Certified AFT Practitioner, you will have the opportunity to enroll in Instructor certification. This includes an instructor practicum, mentoring, and other learning modules.
